ALANYC's CLM^sm Certification Program

Study Group/CLM^sm Bulletin Board

The CLM^sm  will be given in Boston, Massachusetts on May 2, 2010, in conjunction with Annual ALA Conference (May 3-6, 2010). The application deadline for the May exam is March 15, 2010. 

The chapter has a CLM^sm Study Group that assists its members in preparing for this exam. Check the Events Calendar for future session dates. Members preparing to take the exam should contact the CLM Chairs to coordinate their study schedules.

If you are planning to take the examination, or if you just want to brush up on the core competencies of legal administration, you will find the study group sessions both informative and interesting. If you would like to join the CLM^sm Study Group or have questions regarding participation, please contact one of the committee chairs for more information.

The Martha J. Llano Scholarship for the CLM^sm Exam

The New York City Chapter awards two $600 scholarships to members who have taken the CLM exam the prior year. The scholarship recipients are selected by lottery and announced at the winter party. The scholarship recipients need not pass the exam to qualify. They just need to prove that they took the exam during the previous year to be eligible for the drawing. Members who have previously won the CLM scholarship are ineligible. Eligible candidates must agree to have the Chapter publicize their prize in order to participate in the drawing.

The scholarship is named in memory and honor of Martha J. Llano, CLM, who was President of the New York City Chapter from 2000 - 2001 and was President-Elect of ALA from 2005 - 2006 and would have become ALA President in 2006. Martha was a strong proponent of certification, and the New York City Chapter Board of Directors renamed the scholarship in her honor as a fitting tribute.

To apply for a scholarship, forward a copy of the letter confirming you registered to sit for the exam to Marion Grobe at Chapter Headquarters.
