Following are Facts 'N Stats about the Association of Legal Administrators and the New York City Chapter:
Found in 1971, the Association of Legal Administrators (ALA) is headquartered in Lincolnshire, Illinois. ALA is an international organization of more than 10,000 members representing more than 20 countries. In addition, ALA has local chapters throughout the United States and overseas. The New York City Chapter was founded in 1977 and serves approximately 500 members.
Members work in law firms covering the entire spectrum of the New York City area legal profession. Members' firms range in size from just a few attorneys to firms with thousands of attorneys and overseas offices. The average size of a law firm represented in the New York City Chapter is about 50 attorneys.
The chapter's board of directors is comprised of an executive board (President, President-Elect, Communications Officer, Financial Officer, and Immediate Past President), nine Vice Presidents, and up to four Vice Presidents-At-Large (who serve one-year terms). The President and President-Elect serve one-year terms. The Communications Officer and Financial Officer serve two-year terms and are elected in alternating years. Vice Presidents serve two-year terms, half of whom are elected in alternating years. Vice Presidents-At-Large attend board meetings and vote when required to meet a quorum. Committee chairs and co-chairs are often invited to attend board meetings as well.
The president and board of directors set the agenda and programs for the year. The vice presidents and committee chairs are responsible for planning and implementing the programs. Please see the Chapter Committees on this Web site for a more detailed listing of committees and committee chairs.
Past Presidents of the New York City Chapter
Part of our success can be attributed to the leadership of our past presidents. The chapter recognizes and thanks them for their contributions. Many of these individuals, who are lifetime members of the chapter because of their past contributions, are still active in our chapter.
